The journal “Patria” is dedicated to the problem of traditional values both directly in the Russian reality and in the humanitarian sphere as a whole, and covers the whole spectrum of humanities and social sciences, but with a focus on philosophy, religious studies and cultural studies. The journal positions itself as not only a place for publishing the results of scientific research, but also as a space for discussing key topics for society at the academic level.
On the one hand, such values as life, human rights and freedoms, patriotism, citizenship, mutual assistance and mutual respect, high moral ideals and strong family are important in themselves and do not require explanation. On the other hand, different people, social strata and cultural groups have their own ideas about what, for example, high moral ideals are. It does not follow that these ideas must necessarily be radically different, but one thing is clear: dialog and the search for mutual understanding is required.
At the same time, even in the professional community, not to mention the general public, there is still no final clarity on the content of the concept of traditional values. How should the value of collectivism, for example, be understood as a traditional value? In this case, a discussion is needed, within the framework of which a common understanding of these values could be formed. The professional community of experts, scholars and intellectuals can play an important role in this. The journal is aimed at the formation of this community.
The aim of the journal is to create a platform for discussion on a wide range of topics and problems related in one way or another to traditional values, which, on the one hand, would be at a high academic level and meet the professional standards of scientific knowledge, and on the other hand, would not turn research into dry scholasticism and would not be afraid to touch upon practical and existential topics that concern not only scholars, but also people outside the academy.
The journal publishes research and expert authored articles in philosophy, philology, cultural studies, religious studies, social sciences, media studies, and more. The journal also reviews applied empirical research on values in Russia.
