Traditional Values: A Concept and Meanings
Abstract
Values determine the orientation, aspirations, priorities of social dynamics, which allows us to consider them as peculiar projects of the future in the present. Acting as the core of the worldview, the quintessence of socio-political consciousness, ethno-cultural mentality, confessional traditions, ethical and aesthetic reality, the value foundations of personality and society are the most important object of research in socio-humanitarian and philosophical sciences, the study of which allows us to identify the meanings and meanings of ongoing processes and phenomena. One of the main trends in modern value dynamics is the clash of traditional and liberal values, which is reflected in the confrontation and interaction of the countries of Europe and Asia, West and East and is intensified in the conditions of civilizational fractures. The modern global world is faced with a grandiose confrontation of value systems of traditional and liberal types of civilizations. Both modern social conflicts and the confrontation of civilizations are largely conflicts of value systems, value identity, and value sovereignty. Within the framework of the study, the task is to clarify the content of the concept of ‘‘traditional values’’, the role of which in modern Russian society and socio-humanitarian knowledge continues to increase. To do this, a tasks are consistently solved: a general description of the main approaches to understanding the essence of values, the formation of a typology of values, the study of the content and meaning of the concepts of ‘‘traditional’’ and ‘‘liberal’’ values, clarifying the boundaries and content of the concept of traditional values. Based on various approaches to understanding values and building their typology, an existential-axiological approach is presented, which allows us to give a refined definition of traditional values.
