Eurasianism of the 1920s as a Scientific and Theoretical Basis for the Current “Turn to the East”

Abstract

Russia’s desire for Eurasian integration and a turn to the East has objective reasons. The European Union’s transition to green energy would in any case force Russia to reorient itself to the East. In addition, Russia, as a Eurasian power, has historical ties with the countries of the former Soviet Union and China, India, Iran and Turkey. Creatively developed Eurasianism may become the ideology of such a turn. The Eurasians of the 1920s (P. N. Savitsky, N. S. Trubetskoy and others) substantiated the idea that Russia is not Europe, not Asia, but Eurasia, a synthetic civilization with Eastern roots. P. N. Savitsky showed the trade benefits of the union with the East. N. S. Trubetskoy emphasized the need for self-knowledge of Russian civilization and the identification of its non-European, Eastern origins.
